Where it began...

Our History

Bespoke and exclusive staircase design is the core of the Smet DNA. As a renowned manufacturer, specialising in the staircase design, we offer our customers exclusive staircases and a truly personal service; we are small enough to care, large enough to handle the biggest project. The company traces its origin to over almost a century ago when it started as a general joinery business. However since 30 years it has specialised solely on staircases and has produced more than 25,000 unique and different designs, all to the exact requirements of our customers. You can be assured that there is a Smet consultant dedicated only to all that is best for you. Smet handles your exact requirements and sees your project through to full completion and your complete satisfaction.

Smet stairs in the finest of UK homes

Our UK operation started in the millennium when the first Smet commission was installed in Surrey. Indeed the customer was so impressed that he made an investment in our company to help us with expansion. Since we started our UK operation our staircases have been fitted in all areas of the UK - from Guernsey to the North of Scotland, with the majority in the London area. Where we have worked on some of the most prestigious projects.

The sky really is the limit

Smet offers its customers bespoke staircase design with perhaps the widest range of hardwoods available. Thanks to our craftsmanship our products can incorporate high tech features, such as stainless steel, glass, ceramics, wrought iron or forged steel. In fact, from the most modern to the most traditional, whether you have a futuristic home, shop, office or hotel to a listed building or indeed a castle. Whatever you have in mind, we have the skills to turn the staircase of your dreams into a reality.
