Finchampstead - A

  • Wood used: Solid French Oak
  • Type of balustrade: Clear, toughened and laminated glass

We were asked by one of our longest standing Clients to add flair and contemporary feel to the main and secondary staircase of this stunning contemporary country house. So we did!

By adding a bespoke grand splay to start of the staircase, together with curved wreathed sections where the main staircase turns left and right, we transformed this wooden staircase in the great entrance hall into a dynamic and inviting looking feature.

The staircase itself is made from solid French Oak, stained to match the internal doors, and toughened and laminated curved glass.

Because of the way the staircase is constructed, the stairway is completely free standing without any intermediate support to the floor, leaving the space underneath free for artwork and instruments. This adds to the feel of space and emphasises the grand proportions of the entrance hall.

This theme was continued on the secondary staircase creating unity between the two staircases.

The end result

The result is a perfect example of a staircase with a traditional lay-out but a contemporary twist, making it a true wow-factor in the great entrance hall.
